The Visualization and Analytics Community is greatly saddened by the loss of James (Jim) Joseph Thomas, whose sudden passing on August 6 has affected us personally and collectively. Jim was a tireless scholar, teacher, creator, builder, and advocate for visual analytics. But, most importantly, he was a friend to each and every one of us. Jim was a wonderful man, with an infectious sense of wonder about our world, about science, and about the mind. He will be sorely missed.

The iVAC will devote a special issue to his life and his impact next month.
