Inspired by the 2010 FIFA World Cup events, Dr. Kai Xu, of Middlesex University, has completed a visualization of the History of FIFA World Cup from 1930-2006.  The visualization includes the data from all the games played at the final state of the World Cup since its inception in 1930.  In the visualization, each World Cup is shown on a plane.  Each country is a node and there is an edge pointing from Team A to Team B if A beats B in a game.  The node size indicates the country’s performance that year.  The countries are arranged into concentric circles, according to their overall performance over World Cup history.  The center has the highest centrality (or best performance).  Countries are also grouped into continents, which are indicated by color.
